Review: They Steal From Your Luggage
My wife and I flew from New York to Windhoek with a transfer in Johannesburg. We checked in two bags and those bags did not make the connecting flight. They were delivered on a later flight and when we received them we realized that the locks had been picked and nearly all the gifts we brought for my wife's family were stolen.
We filed a claim the next day in Windhoek to a very indifferent staff. In fact, one member named James was quite rude to me when I asked for copies of the claim.
After over a month I get a check for less than 5% of the value of the items stolen while in their care as a final settlement. This check had my named spelled wrong so it was worthless. I called to complain and was rudely told that this is their policy. I also informed the person who handled my claim (and had my proper name on the claim, on my tickets, and on my billing info) about my name being spelt wrong. That was almost four weeks ago and they haven't issued a new check.
This airline is run by thieves and incompetent rude people. Don't give them your business.

Review: SHIT SERVICE
SAA has been my preferred travel airline, and it has been my preference for booking my current travel arrangements. However, I would like to register a complaint regarding my last two trips.

Trip 1-London to South Africa

I arrived at the check-in counter and my bag weighed 22kgs-I was told that I was only allowed 20 kgs and removed the 2kgs from my bags which ultimately was only my computer charges. I went through duty free and purchased a few items and added it into my hand luggage and whilst standing in the queue to board the aircraft the same indignant ground staff that was at the check-in desk called me out to re-weigh my bag. He then added that I was 3 kilos overweight and insisted that I pay for the 3 kilos. The way he handled the situation made me feel like I was some poor pheasant when actually the only reason why I wasn’t flying business class was I had a last minute ticket change. This service was not only rude it was undignified and disgraceful-pathetic actually.

Trip 2-South Africa to London

I arrived at Durban airport and I was informed that there was a few hours delay with the flight from JHB to London. I did inform the ground staff that I preferred to stay in Durban until confirmation was received when the aircraft would take off.
They then confirmed the flight was delayed out of Washington and the flight would take off at 03.00 am to London.
On arrival in JHB I went to the ticket desk-Bizarrely people booked on the SAME FLIGHT WERE BEING REALLOCATED SEATING ON OTHER aircraft BUT I WAS INFORMED BECAUSE I HAD A CHEAP DISCOUNTED TICKET I needed to wait until the next morning and needed to spend the night in a hotel.
I then called the duty manager and he informed me that because I had a cheap discounted ticket there was absolutely nothing that he could do and was not willing to help me despite my plea to get to London for my brother’s engagement party. However, the cherry on the top of this disgrace was the hair found in my breakfast which was brought to the steward’s attention immediately!!!!!!

Now you tell me if this is superior worthy service regardless of the amount of money I paid? I don’t expect anything for free but this is just unacceptable and I will be publishing this to every individual I know about your inferior service your airline offers and the way it treats ‘poor’ people. SHOCKING!

Review: No luggage security or customer service
On a flight from Durban connecting in Johannesburg to Victoria Falls, my luggage did not make it. It did not come for the duration of my 5 day trip and the airline claimed the luggage was lost until I got the Zambian minister of tourism involved and then the luggage was magically found and given to me on my RETURN but with stolen items. Customer service is non existent. All employees are rude and barely work. There are crime rings in the luggage handlers in Durban and Johannesburg and this is a common occurrance. No compensation thus far or apologies AT ALL. This airline should be kicked out of IATA.

Review: worst customer service ever
I received the worst customer service of my life from South African Airways and i am not prone to exaggeration. I'll spare you the details of the whole story, in a nutshell i was without my luggage for 5 days while on vacation because of two SAA flight delays and what was either a lie to placate me or just really bad misinformation that came from a SAA agent. it cost me approx. $100 dollars in international phone calls and train tickets to the airport in Narita Japan to get my delayed/lost luggage. SAA has consistently denied me a genuine apology and any compensation for my time and money getting my luggage back. While trying to talk to any customer service agent on the phone or over email i was consistently treated rudely and promptly passed off to someone else who was equally as rude and unhelpful. Please reconsider using SAA as your carrier.
