Sacramento's airport will now have two daily direct flights to Vancouver. Air Canada's new flights will add another international destination from the airport. Mexicana offers service to and from Mexico with Sacramento, as well as Frontier's service that began earlier this month.

SAS follows the lead of British Airways in enacting a voluntary carbon emissions fee to passengers to offset greenhouse gases that are released during flights. The fee doesn't offset emissions, but compensates for the emissions based on information from the CarbonNeutral Company.

London City Airport is getting a 70 percent boost in flights thanks to British Airways. Although the airline states this is a commitment to the city, it could be a defensive play against greater competition to the city from other carriers.

Japan Airlines reprimands pilot, copilot and flight attendant for photograph in cockpit over Siberia. Although the plane was never compromised during the flight, the company reported the incident.

The AirTran takeover offer of Midwest Air Group has been extended, but the deal remains the same, while Midwest is reporting that their passenger traffic is increasing. It is possible that Midwest is waiting for a slightly sweeter offer, but claims passenger service will worsen if the deal is allowed to pass.

Airlines are buying more aircraft again. Both Southwest Airlines and Continental Airlines have added new orders for more airplanes from Boeing. These aircraft orders signal growth for the two Texas-based airlines.

Frozen wings have yet again grounded Jetblue, and created more problems for the company just weeks after what may have been this airline’s lowest point. The airline can blame the cold weather as the cause, but passengers are placing blame of poor service directly with the company.

The newly passed Open Skies deal may pinch British Airways if passed, but passengers may benefit from reduced airfares for trans-Atlantic flights, as well as greater airline choice. Open Skies still has some turbulent skies ahead of it on both sides of the Atlantic, but that may change if the deal gets full passage.

Pakistan International Airlines will be banned from operating the majority of what is an ageing fleet in Germany and Britain. The restrictions starting at 2 am Sunday do not affect the entire fleet of aircraft from Pakistan, but will cause disruption of its European Operations.
